DescriptionThis object is a wine vessel (called fang hu) made during the Qin or Western Han dynasty (221 BCE - 9 CE). Several wine vessels like this one were found in Qin dynasty tombs at Yunmeng, Hubei. The square, plain design of the fang hu evolved out of elaborately decorated round hu of the Zhou dynasty. The handles, animal masks with pendant rings, are very traditional. The use of bronze vessels tapered off during the Han dynasty as they were replaced by pottery. On View
