DescriptionClay figurine, West Mexican Shaft Tomb Cultures, Colima Style. Female figure strapped down on square platform. Two arches raised over head with figure strapped at shoulders.Several theories to precisely what is being depicted by such small West Mexican sculptures exist in addition to that of a sick person awaiting a shaman's attention, including: a deceased person strapped to a bier with head held in place, and an infant on a cradleboard. Such an item would be placed within a shaft-tomb with other funerary sculpture and ceremonial items.
