DescriptionThis photograph depicts lavish displays from the Southern California Citrus Fair, held in Los Angeles in 1895. Following the boom of the 1880s in Southern California, fairs such as these were held from 1891-1895 and featured towering displays of citrus stacked in pyramids and other patterns from Orange County and other cities in the region known for their citrus production. The fair was so popular that it was renamed as "The Orange Carnival" and sent to cities across the US.
