DescriptionThis ceramic figural blackware jar was made by the Tairona people, a Pre-Columbian culture that resided in Colombia. The figure portrayed by this vessel displays interesting features, including: a tasseled headdress, a large labret (lower lip ornament), a large, flat nose ornament, and a disc-shaped chest ornament. The elaborate adornment suggests that the individual portrayed was one of status. This is supported by previous notes which described the vessel as a "Chieftain Jar".On View
