DescriptionIn 1925, the Great Northern Railroad commissioned Kathryn Leighton to create a series of paintings of the Blackfeet Tribe at Glacier National Park to promote travel on the railroad, propelling her to fame. Here, she captures Alice “Dixie Dee” McNamara Duffill, second wife of the socially connected citrus grower Harry Duffill. Mr. Duffill nearly lost a sizable portion of his large inheritance because of his affair with Alice, a “pretty nurse” according to newspaper articles on the scandal. The case went to the Supreme Court, settling in Harry’s favor.
