DescriptionBlack-on-red painted ceramic urn. Neolithic Yang-chao culture, Ma-chang style. China, c.2000-1500B.C. Vessel is flat at the bottom; globular body with two lug handles along the sides. Vessel has a short tapering neck with flaring rim. The design is executed in black and consists of a quadripartite distribution of circles. The inner circle of each larger circle is decorated with crooked "swastika-like" motifs. Other decor includes triangles and simple bands.Surface is characterized by root-hair marks.
