DescriptionSepia toned photograph of a display of floral sculptures at the Santa Ana Valley Mid Winter Fruit & Flower Festival, held at Spurgeon Hall in Santa Ana, California, 1887. Photographed by Conaway & Hummell, Santa Ana. Conaway was a leading landscape photographer during this time and only partnered with Hummell from 1887 to 1889. Portrait photos taken by Hummell outside of the partnership suggest he was a portraiture and enjoyed people to be the subjects of his work. In 1886 orchard fields and growers were vastly populating Orange County, the region’s namesake, and created an abundance of fruit production that added to the festivals’ success. As the city of Los Angeles grew, the orchards were pushed down to Orange County. This is when train production was starting to be established, which allowed for crop transportation to other regions and states. On View
