DescriptionThis object is an earthenware food or water storage vessel, likely from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Throughout history and to this day, potters in Sulawesi have created vessels by hand rather than with a pottery wheel, using their palms to flatten the clay and then shaping them with a wooden paddle. During the final stages of production when they are mostly dry, vessels of this size are held in a woman's lap and nested within a basket as they are rotated and smoothed. On View
