DescriptionThis object is a shoulder yoke, or carrying pole, used frequently by Asian and western European cultures to carry large, equally weighted loads by hanging them from either side of the pole and balancing from the center on one's shoulders. This particular example likely comes from Indonesia or China and is made from a dark, red wood with metal fittings, including three hanging loops at each end.
