DescriptionThe Aymara lluch’u derives from the Quechua ch’ullu, a traditional knitted hat with a conic shape. The lluch’u has long earflaps and is often decorated with colorful patterns. They can be made of llama or alpaca wool. When Spain colonized the Bolivian highlands, they introduced Spanish knitting techniques that today only survive due to the relative isolation the highlands provide. The lluch’u is an example of the prominence of knitting in Aymara culture.
