DescriptionWood fragment, (Nos. 1 - 2) from wreckage of Spanish ship found off Solana Beach in 1958.
The wreckage was 30'L x 6'W. In 1960 the Assistant Curator of Smithsonian Institute confirmed the wreckage was part of a Spanish Galleon wreck in 1759. Possibly part of THE SAN JOSE supply ship for Father Serra expedition.

These pieces may have come from the Spainsh Galleon, "San Jose", a supply rendevous
ship that formed part of the expedition ordered by the Visitador General, Galvez,
to explore Alta California. The Portola expedition which included Father Junipero Serra was one of the four parties sent into Alta California by Galvez.
