DescriptionClubs were the primary weapons used in the Collingwood Bay and the larger Oro Province area. Their stone heads made them highly effective for use in warfare. While disc and circular shaped club heads are found throughout Papua New Guinea, this club can be attributed to Collingwood Bay because of its decoration. The fiber wrapping and bundle of feathers were typical of clubs with disc shaped heads from this area. Compared to other examples, this piece is sparsely decorated. Scholarship suggests that highly decorated clubs were the possessions of important and prestigious men.On View
