DescriptionThe Miao place a great emphasis on adornment. This band functioned as part of an elaborate festival ensemble. Its exact purpose is unknown, but it possibly was used as a belt or as a type of strap or tie that kept leggings and/or other articles of clothing in place. Even though this piece had a functional purpose, its design and decoration draw attention to the wealth of the wearer’s family and the skill of the wearer herself. On View
