DescriptionEbony walking sticks are found in various locations within the Massim area including Gawa and Bagaman. They have a utilitarian function. Some scholars have suggested that similar ebony walking sticks might have at one time be trade items in the kula ring trade network. It has also been suggested that some elaborately carved walking sticks had magical properties and were carried by village sorcerers.On View
