DescriptionThe introduction of tobacco to Papua New Guinea prompted the creation of bamboo pipes. Different forms of pipes are made and used in different parts of the country. Similar pipes typically are decorated with geometric designs in a process called pyro-engraving. Depictions of spirit or ancestor figures can be found on pipes as well.
