DescriptionThis hook figure, also referred to as a yipwon, was collected from the Karawori River area in the Middle Sepik River region of Papua New Guinea. The object dates from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. A yipwon features a style known as the opposed-hooks style, in which curved and pointed hooks are arranged on a vertical axis around a central design element.
