DescriptionThis carved wooden canoe paddle was collected from the Middle Sepik River region in the East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea. The object dates back mid to late 20th century. This canoe paddle features openwork carvings of bird motifs. Canoe transportation is an essential mode of transportation to navigate the waterways of the region as well as for hunting and fishing.
