DescriptionLetter written by Father Vicente Francisco de Sarria to Father Boscana, May 7, 1828.
Translation:

San Carlos
Viva Jesus
My esteemed Father
Health and Peace in Christ Jesus. I received yours of the 10th of April last, and let your Reverence now think that I do not know how much you desire to leave this land, and how hard you have tried to do so. But your Reverence, please listen to reason for the love of God. You are not the only one wishing to retire for there are many more. If I grant you permission, just think what fuss the others will make. I have also denied the others permission to leave, until we see what the Government will do regarding the allocation to ministers in this Province, for in effect, if it prevails, it will have something to say on that score, knowing how much it is against us. So that, very dear Father, although I do not want to dampen your spirit, i beg of you, to wait awhile longer, hoping for the best.
If your Reverence wants to take a rest away from your work, you can go as far as Santa Barbara to see Father Antonio, or for any honest motive, always letting the Father President know of your plans.
I commend you to God, and beg of you to do the same for your most attentive and cordial friend, who kisses your hands.
Fr. Vicente Francisco de Sarria.
