DescriptionThis full-body mask is danced and performed to evoke the clan spirits from its particular village. It comes from Yamok Village in the East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea. These dances would take place within the Spirit House (Haus Tambaran) during special rituals, most commonly at initiation rituals performed after young boys have completed the rigorous of tests of manhood, and during the celebration of the newly initiated, in the presence of a counsel of elders. On View
