DescriptionTraditionally, the funerary rites of the Toraja people of Sulawesi were very complex, spanning the course of several days and culminating with the placement of the deceased’s remains into an erong. This unique coffin served as the body’s final resting place and the spirit’s symbolic carriage into Puya, or the Land of Souls.
