DescriptionMacaracas style, Central Panama. Vessel with cross pattern and wedge-shaped panels (saurians). There are four groups of solid vertical bands along the shoulder, marking off the four cardinal directions. The four panels are decorated with stylized saurian figures. The saurian is a creature mixing human and crocodilian traits. In Panamanian pre- Columbian art the saurian is used to represent and empowered shaman. On View
