DescriptionPRE-COLUMBIAN; Sculpture. Seated Lady. Buff, Jaina. Late Classic Maya, A.D. 800-925. On stand 8" high. Bowers Museum Exhibit Cat. #323, Hasso von Winning. Figure with cape; glued to wooden base. Elaborate headdress with some red coloring visible.(Note may apply to this piece: Attention is drawn to the elongated nose which projects upward beyond the eyebrows. For cosmetic purposes Maya nobles adhered a piece of beeswax to accentuate the nose thereby emphasizing the artificially flattened forehead- von Winning note for another Jaina piece.)
