DescriptionThis oil portrait of Pio Pico—the last Mexican governor of California was painted by Henry Frey, an American painter and lithographer working in California during the 19th Century. It was likely ordered by Pio Pico himself, enlarged from a photograph. The painting originally hung in a square frame, but thanks to conservation carried out in 2017, the painting is now displayed in an ovoid spandrel.On View
