DescriptionHopi vessel, probably Thunderbird, on breast of one is the swastika, or whirling log, motif. Traditional Hopi pottery is known for the many shades of yellow and orange of the clay. Characteristic designs include birds and other abstracted motifs based on ancient pottery. The potter Nampeyo’s interest in reviving the forms and designs from ancestral Hopi pottery resulted in a florescence of pottery making at Hopi and has been very popular in the art market.
