DescriptionThis bowl’s form is unusual, and examples of similar bowls were difficult to locate. This might suggest that the shape and design of the bowl are modern. The donor indicates that this bowl is from the Solomon Islands. The most common bowls from this area include incised designs featuring shell inlay and/or white pigment. Bowls from Guadalcanal Island are tall and feature handles protruding from each side of the bowl. It is possible that this bowl is from that area or that its style was inspired by the forms made in the Guadalcanal area.On View
