DescriptionPottery vessels are made by a number of groups in Papua New Guinea for food preparation and for ceremonial purposes. Clay was collected from the ground or bottom of a swamp. Then, grit and shells were removed to refine the clay body. Pots were started by coiling a disk and then slowing building up the sides. After a certain length is reached, the coils are then bonded and smoothed down. Decoration can be applied to the outside while it is in the drying process by using a variety of specialized, wooden tools. On View
