DescriptionThis Dong or Miao fastener serves to attach counterweights to woman’s daily wear. In this case the fastener is made by connecting two chains to two coins, each of which functions as a button. The buttons hang through fabric loops on the back of an apron and the chain itself would have wrapped around the silver counterweight. These are predominantly used by the Dong, but Miao villages in the region also use the counterweights. Silversmithing is exclusively performed by men and taught from father to son.On View
