DescriptionThe creation of Navajo rugs shifted to a commercial enterprise in the late 19th century. This rug is likely a transition piece due to several factors. Firstly, it has what has been identified as “Chief Blanket” proportions. This means that it was woven to be wider than it is tall. Later rugs are typically taller than they are wide. Additionally, the rug has a strong central whirling log motif. This motif coupled with the natural and stratified colors used and the lack of a strong outer border indicate that this is a transitional work.On View
