DescriptionSpear points from the Kimberley region of Australia are distinctive due to their flaked appearance and serrated edges. Prior to contact with Europeans, these points were made of stone. The arrival of Europeans introduced new materials from which the points could be manufactured. These materials included glass, ceramic and porcelain. The points rapidly became highly desirable items for collectors. While glass points were used as tools and exchange items, they were also widely produced for Western tourists and collectors. The distinctive form of these points was achieved through a combination of percussion and pressure flaking techniques. While made in the Kimberley region, these points were widely traded throughout Australia.On View
