DescriptionTogether with its skirt, this ensemble is one example of typical dress of the Zhuang of Yunnan Province. The Zhuang generally dress in black clothing that is stylistically similar to the traditional clothing of the Han Chinese. As the Zhuang are the largest of all Chinese ethnic minority groups, there are many variations in the style of their clothing. For example, the Zhuang in the southeastern part of Yunnan dress in more colorfully adorned clothing than many others of their culture. Another variation is this ensemble. Unlike most women’s jackets that are loose fitting and follow the shape of the typical Han women’s jacket, this one is quite close fitting. It also flares out at the waist as has long sleeves that curve towards the cuffs. The metal embellishments are typical, with their shapes and symbols varying from jacket to jacket.On View
