DescriptionHorses are a commonly depicted subject in Chinese and Chinese-style painting. The artist had not seen a horse until he arrived in the United States in the late 1960s. As such, imagination influenced his early horse painting and continues to affect his work. Ning Yeh begins to paint a horse by first painting the eyes. For the artist, the eyes set the tone and personality of the horse he is going to depict. Horse painting was a traditional art in Ning Yeh’s family. On View
