DescriptionAdzes were one of the essential tools that Massim carvers used when creating objects such as canoes out of wood. This adze has the swirling geometric carved motifs that are prevalent in the other wood carvings of the Massim area. Then notched blade seen here could have been created to assist a carver with a specific task. For instance, notched stone blades were used to cut of curved surfaces like the interior of outrigger canoes.On View
