DescriptionSculpted from the Giant Clam (Tridacna gigas) with stone tools, the töla gasa (metal or shell bracelet) is grooved, decorated with a ridge and worn on the right wrist by Nias men. The undecorated ones are reserved for the Karo Batak. The Giant Clam, considered to be a valuable adornment, is one of the largest arm bands. It can be identified by their density and translucent appearance, resembling fine alabaster (Cutsem).On View
