DescriptionThe size of this drum indicates that it would have been used in a male-only dance ceremony. The tympanum (missing) would have been made from a mammal rather than lizard skin since the area is larger than monitor lizard can cover. The Marind-Anim are notorious for their elaborate feathered dance costumes and their past head-hunting practices.On View
