DescriptionThis club from New Caledonia is shaped in the form of the head of a stylized bird. Used by chiefs, the clubs were symbols of prestige, rank, and wealth that were sometimes ritually exchanged. Because the club terminates in a fragile point it was most likely used ceremonially, as an object of display, rather than in war.On View
