DescriptionThis style of ornate bowl from Lou Island was reserved for feasting. The body and feet are cut from single sections of the large, native trees. To create a perfectly ovoid bowl these sections are hollowed with fire. The handles are decorative, likely inspired by cuscus tails, sea snail shells, or boar tusks. They are carved separately and then attached with a glue made from parinarium nut.
